Design and Manufacture of Purpose Made Steel Formwork

This project had a number of unusual aspects.

The Barrier was to be constructed on an existing prestressed concrete bridge deck so no anchoring to the deck was permitted to prevent uplift. Kentledge was built in to the forms.

There was a crossfall on the bridge deck which dictated that the profile of each side form was different.

Full adjustability had to be built in to the forms to cater for both vertical and horizontal curves, with a height adjustable chamfer fillet at the top edge. No through ties were permitted at the base of the barrier so all adjustment and clamping was via a ‘scissor’ arrangement above the pour.

The barrier width varied to accommodate lighting columns.

The forms were designed to be handled as a pair of 3m long forms pairs in a single pick by a wheeled excavator / HIAB
